What is Hacktoberfest?

Hacktoberfest is a month-long celebration of open source software run by DigitalOcean in partnership with GitHub and Twilio. Hacktoberfest is open to everyone in our global community! Five quality pull requests must be submitted to public GitHub repositories.You can sign up anytime between October 1 and October 31

Q: Is the event online?

Yes. The event is fully online.

Q: Is it beginner friendly?

The event has something for everyone, right from beginners to intermediaries to experts. There are a lot of beginner friendly projects to work on!

Q: Are there any cash prizes?

Yes, there are exciting cash prizes in 3 different categories. Don't miss it out!

Q: Is there any registration fee?

Nope,the event is absolutely free to take part!

Q: Is it compulsory to make 4 PRs in the event

Four PRs are necessary to be eligible for goodies from DigitalOcean. While we recommend you make atleast four PRs, you can make how many ever you want!

Q: Do we need to learn Git CLI or will we be taught?

We have a webinar on working with the Git CLI. Don't miss out!

Q: Where can I download Git from? What other resources/links do I need?

You can download Git based on your system OS from here. More on how to work with it will be shown in our webminars. Tune in!

Q: I haven’t learnt anything extra apart from college syllabus, will that be enough for me to be able to contribute to projects?

College syllabus usually covers theory of various topics. We'll be showing how to apply that knowledge practically, so yes that's enough!

Q: What platform will the event be held on? Will we be able to interact with the team/ with others taking part in the event?

The event will take place on Microsoft Teams. A link to the meeting will be sent via email a few hours before the event. We have a live Discord server, where you can ask your queries and interact with the mentors and fellow contributors!
